Review: Redeeming Love

Redeeming Love Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
My rating: 💛💛💛💛💛

This is one of the the first Christian fiction novels I've read and since then re-read it a few times. It is one of those stories you either love or hate and is based on the Biblical book, Hosea.

I think the things a lot of readers disliked in this novel, is exactly what I appreciate about it. Yes, this book should probably not be read by young readers, due to the subject matter. This is not an easy read, young girls being sold into prostitution, but for me, the author used the worst kind of evil to represent the evil in this world which takes God's children captive. And like Michael, He is gentle in winning our hearts, but it is still our decision if we will accept His love and freedom He so graciously gives.

And, without God's love, we are all just lost and in a losing battle in this world.

So yes, this is a difficult book, but it is such a beautiful picture of no matter how lost you could be, how bad and tainted your past is, God will renew you and give you a new life. And, if we are honest, no one is perfect and without sin, and God forgives us and welcomes us no matter how many times we mess up.

About the book:

Sold into sin as a child, beautiful, tormented Angel never believed in love. Then Michael Hosea walked into her life. He was a simple man, strong as the rich earth he farmed. And though Angel found his tenderness tooth and nail, Michael made her his wife. Through days of hardship and toil and starry nights of shared solitude, he opened her eyes to life's sweetest blessings and slowly melted the ice from her heart. Welcomed by a neighboring family of settlers, Angel discovered a close-knit warmth she'd never known. But there were others who could not forget - or forgive - the woman Angel once was. Now in the teeming city of San Francisco, a difficult destiny awaits her. To be worthy of the husband she adores, Angel must face - and conquer - the darkest demon of her path....
