Book Spotlight Fridays! Labyrinth of Lies

Book Beginnings and Friday56

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader and share a non-spoiler sentence or two.

A suspense from favourite author, Irene Hannon:

Labyrinth of Lies

About the book:

When the daughter of a high-profile businessman disappears from an exclusive girls' boarding school, police detective Cate Reilly is tapped for an undercover assignment. It doesn't take her long to realize that beneath the veneer of polish and wealth, things are not as they seem at Ivy Hill Academy. But the biggest surprise of all? The only man she ever loved is also working at the school.

Zeke Sloan has never forgotten Cate, but now isn't the best time for their paths to cross again. When their two seemingly disparate agendas begin to intertwine--and startling connections emerge among the players--the danger escalates significantly. But who is the mastermind behind the elaborate ruse? And how far will they go to protect their house of cards?

Queen of romantic suspense Irene Hannon invites you to scale the heights of human folly and plumb the depths of the human heart in this second gripping book in the Triple Threat series.

Book Beginnings

They wanted her to take on another undercover gig?

Friday 56

Without her Sig on her hip, the authority and buffer of her badge, and backup only a phone call away, the sense of vulnerability was unnerving.

My thoughts so far

This grabbed my attention from the start.  The author also introduced a few characters who could possibly be the villain.

  1. Somehow I feel like this is the first time I've heard of a romantic suspense book, although it completely makes sense! I can see why it grabbed your attention immediately and it definitely has me intrigued as well. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a lovely weekend :)

    1. I usually enjoy it heavier on the suspense, light on the romance :-)

  3. Now this is my type of read and a setting I love. Boarding houses that have a gothic feel to them. Ha! I will have to take a look at this one.

    Have a good weekend!

  7. I'm always curious how an author handles romantic suspense in a series. This one looks like it features different characters than Point of Danger? How does the series tie together?

    1. Yes, the link between the 3 books in the series is three sisters. All sisters appears in both books, but the main character is different.
