Book Spotlight Fridays! Expired Return

Book Beginnings and Friday56

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader and share a non-spoiler sentence or two.  First Line Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Reading is my Superpower that asks you to share the first sentence of the book you're reading.

This is a new to me author, though Lisa Phillips is a well loved and published author.  I am intrigued and looking forward to continue this story over the weekend.

Expired Return

About the book:

She’ll give everything to protect her family.
He always knew she was the one.

Veterinary tech Pepper Miller lives a quiet life in Last Chance County. She’s watching her niece until her sister shows up…if she ever does. When Victory’s father demands he take over her care, Pepper knows something has gone wrong. With a new drug in town, and her sister embroiled in a dangerous bargain, it’s up to Pepper to protect the people she loves.

Even if it costs every secret she’s ever kept.

Fire Department liaison Allen Frees lives with the injuries he sustained as a police officer in a raid gone wrong. He’s put his life back together but getting the truck crew and engine squad to succeed might be his toughest assignment yet. When Victory is nearly kidnapped at a community event, Allen steps in to help Pepper keep her niece safe. The one thing he couldn’t fix was the love he lost, but he isn’t going to let Pepper walk away this time.

No matter what walls he has to break down.

Last Chance County returns in this blazing new series from Sunrise Publishing.

Book Beginnings

Pepper pulled into the police department parking lot.

Friday 56

But the fact was, if Allen called and said Victory should be taken from Pepper for her safety, they would report it to Child protective Services without hesitation.

My thoughts so far

I am enjoying this and have so many questions which needs answers!

  1. I’m trying to catch ip on Lisa’s books. This looks like a good one!

My first line comes from Hearts of Steel by Elizabeth Camden:
    Prologue
New York City, 1890 Lower East Side of Manhattan
Maggie Molinaro was five blocks from the safety of her uncle’s garage when she noticed the gang of boys following her.

  6. Happy Friday!
I'm currently reading The Billionaire's Nanny by Elizabeth Maddrey. It's a good story.
"'You're back!' Megan darted out from behind the cash register as soon as I stepped through the bookstore door, and pulled me into a tight hug."
I hope you have a good weekend. 😀
