Book Spotlight Fridays! Ruby Jane and Unknown Threat

Book Beginnings and Friday56

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader and share a non-spoiler sentence or two.

So, this week I'm spotlighting two books.  I was excited to read both, didn't know which one first, started both to get a feel, and now I'm drawn into both!

Ruby Jane

About the book:

She loved...and lost.

Ruby Jane never thought she'd meet the man of her dreams while running from the police in Russia. That he'd steal her heart on a train to Siberia. But loving a former CIA officer comes with a price...a life of danger. A life of high stakes.

A life where he simply disappears...

He has no memory of the man he was.

Mack Jones has no memory of his past...just the dark sense that he is hiding. And, he wants to stay that way. Mack likes the life he's built in a small tourist town, tucked away beyond the mountains, and has no desire to dig around in the gray areas of his memory.

When his place of business catches fire and Mack rescues the owner, he makes the news, which of course alerts the past he's hoping to outrun.

The only person who can help him is a mysterious woman he doesn't remember.

But a woman he desperately needs.

The surprising, thrilling conclusion to the Montana Marshall series.

Book Beginnings

Aw, York just knew this would happen.  Knew he should never have come home.

Friday 56 (38%)

None of her crazy stories made sense.  But deep in his gut, in the core of his chest, Mack-er, York-knew she was telling the truth.  Or most of it.  Because there were parts that didn't quite fit together.

My thoughts so far

It is Bitter-sweet to read the final book in this series.  I want to see what happens next but also don't want to say goodbye to the Marshalls.

Unknown Threat

About the book:

US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell is lucky to be alive. Three of his fellow agents have died in unusual circumstances in the past ten weeks. Luke is devastated by the loss of his friends and colleagues, and his inability to locate the killer feels like a personal failure. He's an expert at shielding others, but now the protectors are in need of protection.

FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is driven to succeed and confident in her ability to solve every case she's assigned. She's been put in charge of the investigation into the unprecedented attacks, and with Luke's life in danger, the stakes have never been higher. But it's hard to know how to fight back when you don't know who the enemy is.

As more agents are targeted, Luke and Faith will have to work together to bring a killer to justice and prevent any more names from joining their fallen brothers and sisters on the Secret Service Wall of Honor.

Book Beginnings

Luke Powell's head throbbed as he parked his sedan in the empty lot and glared into the nearby trees.

Friday 56 (page 60ish/ 19%)

"We know the other person in the car was female.  How can you know for sure she wasn't-"
"You wouldn't have to ask if you'd known Thad."

My thoughts so far

Loving this one!
