Review: Dancing with Fireflies

Dancing with Fireflies Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter
My rating: 💛💛💛💛

Warning: The opening scene starts with a date rape – no hectic details, just enough to give the reader an idea of what happened but might be a trigger for victims of this crime.

I devoured this book in three days. The story flowed fast and was an easy read. I love the McKinley family and they way they stand together and support each other. You can just feel their love through the pages.

Jade – I loved her, got annoyed by her, had compassion for her, but also could not understand how she so easily moved on and was ok with dating guys again.

Daniel – oh, he will be a book boyfriend crush for so many readers. He almost felt too perfect, but then you saw him feeling anger and frustration – but, still almost perfect.

A sweet contemporary which I enjoyed and can highly recommend.

This book can be read as a standalone, but I would still read the first book just to get Maddison’s story.

About the book:

Jade returns home to Chapel Springs after years of protecting her fragile heart. Then along comes Daniel, making her long to dance again.

Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she'd never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He's loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she's back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she's hiding secrets from her family, and she's strangely attracted to the man who's always called her "squirt." Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

About the author:

Denise Hunter is the award-winning author of more than 40 novels, three of which have been adapted into Hallmark movies.

Denise writes heartwarming, small-town romances, peopled with layered characters who have real-life issues. Her readers enjoy the vicarious thrill of falling in love and the promise of a happily-ever-after sigh as they savor the final pages of her books.

In 1996, Denise began her first novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she's been writing ever since. Her books contain a strong romantic element, and her husband says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!

Denise and her husband live in Indiana, where they raised three sons, and are currently enjoying an empty nest.
