Book Spotlight Fridays! The Mistletoe Countess and To Treasure an Heiress

Book Beginnings and Friday56

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading. Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and asks you to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader and share a non-spoiler sentence or two.

I'm spoiling you with two books again this week:.

The Mistletoe Countess

About the book:

Will the magic of Christmas bring these two newlyweds closer together, or will the ghosts of the past lead them into a destructive discovery from which not even a Dickens’s Christmas can save them?

Mistletoe is beautiful and dangerous, much like the woman from Lord Frederick’s Percy’s past, so when he turns over a new leaf and arranges to marry for his estate, instead of his heart, he never expects the wrong bride to be the right choice. Gracelynn Ferguson never expected to take her elder sister’s place as a Christmas bride, but when she’s thrust into the choice, she will trust in her faithful novels and overactive imagination to help her not only win Frederick’s heart but also to solve the murder mystery of Havensbrook Hall before the ghosts from Frederick’s past ruin her fairytale future.

Gracelynn Ferguson gripped the Model T's window frame and leaned forward, breath caught in a suppressed gasp.

Friday 56

"No one can be that horrid without a very good reason, don't you think?"

My thoughts so far

Enjoying this! Gracelynn is such a fun character.  If you enjoy MOC stories, try this one.

To Treasure an Heiress

About the book:

Beth Tremayne has always been drawn to adventure. During her childhood, she fed that desire by exploring every inch of the Isles of Scilly. As an adolescent, she dreamed of love in London's ballrooms. Now, stumbling across an old map on her family's property, she's found more adventure than she ever craved in the hunt for pirate treasure. Unfortunately, Beth can't escape the attentions of her family's guest, Lord Sheridan.

Sheridan has spent years pursuing whatever archaeological interests caught his imagination. And when he discovers that Beth's search connects with one of his favorite pirates of history, he can't help getting involved. Plus, he finds her irresistible, even though she insists he stole a prized possession of hers.

As they work together following different clues and drawing closer to danger, they start to piece together a story of tragic love and piratical adventure. But the true surprise is the treasure they discover in each other.

Prince... or pirate?

Friday 56

But no one had ever called him a thief before.  It probably shouldn't amuse him.

My thoughts so far

Looking forward to get back to The Secret of the Isles.  This one feels like a from-enemies-to-love story.

  1. The Mistletoe Countess does sound like a lovely read but I think out of the two it is 'To Treasure an Heiress' that's intriguing me the most! I do love me some pirates, treasure and hijinks! I hope you enjoy it as well and that you have a lovely weekend :)
