Review: One Last Chance

One Last Chance One Last Chance by Susan May Warren
My rating: 5 of 5 starsπŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›

“Faith is believing even when you don’t feel like it. You really think that God doesn’t care even after he sent Axel to save you? Or sent you to save Axel?”

“Faith isn’t weakness. Faith is aligning yourself with true power. True control.”

Wow, I knew I would like Axel story, and ended up loving it!

From the start, with Flynn catching a serial killer (along with Burke and Eve from the Rembrandt Stone series – a 5-star series and a cameo I loved in this book), to Axel’s near dying rescue at sea, the action, suspense, and danger did not die down.

Flynn and Axel’s meeting was sweet and different and set up a great connection for the rest of the book. I loved the titanic references for their own relationship.

Flynn and Axel are both in dangerous careers, which was evident with all the near-death experiences, but also made their emotional struggles relevant to them and kept the book real. I loved all the spiritual wisdom which easily flowed through the story.

There were a lot of characters from Susan May Warren’s other series. Serious fans like me will adore catching up to all these characters, but if this is your first book by the author, or you are still catching up, you will not be lost.

The set up of Moose’s story for his book coming next, and the cliffhanger at the end, made me want to have immediate access to book three.

Another great action-packed book fans will love and which will turn newbies to fans of this author’s work.

“He’s interested in your joy. Happiness is circumstantial. It’s fleeting and momentary. Joy is . . . it’s a state of being. It’s living in the place where you know that you’re loved by God, that he is at work in you, and that you can trust his control. And that beats any kind of happiness, all day long.”

“Do you? Just because you thought of your life one way doesn’t mean that God can’t change course. He knows our hearts better than we do. It’s probably good to listen.”

About the book:

Axel Mulligan was built to be a Coast Guard rescue swimmer. He swam fast and endured long, a miracle for those in peril--until a tragedy sent him home to Alaska. Now, three years later, he's not going to let the past repeat itself. As an Air One rescue swimmer, he'll do anything to save lives--including sacrifice his own.

He expects to do just that while trying to rescue a group of tourists from the icy waters of the Gulf of Alaska. But if not for the voice on the other end of the ham radio, he might have given up and let hypothermia win. That voice awakened something in his heart, and he sets out to find the woman it belongs to.

Flynn Turnquist is not who Axel thinks she is. A national wildlife researcher, she's deep in the bush, tracking wolf pack patterns. Or is she? In fact, she's a former cop, tracking down a serial killer. She nearly had him--until he escaped into the wilds of the Alaska bush.

When Axel finds Flynn and discovers what she's really up to, it stirs up a terrible nightmare he's been dodging for years--the kidnapping and death of his own cousin. Worse, he's led the killer right to her doorstep. Now, it's a race through Alaska to stay alive. And when tragedy strikes again, he must choose between rescue or redemption.
