Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

I have discovered James R Hannibal only last year, and enjoyed his work a lot (added to my backlist TBR and auto watch authors).  Looking forward to his new release June 7th:

About the book: Elysium Tide

Dr. Peter Chesterfield is one of the Royal London Hospital's top neurosurgeons. He is also a workaholic, ordered by his boss to take a week off to attend a medical symposium at the luxurious Elysium Grand on the island of Maui. While there, Peter pulls a woman with a skull fracture from the water. Though he is able to revive her in the ambulance, she eventually dies in his arms, leaving him with only one clue to what happened to her: the word "honu."

Increasingly obsessed with discovering the cause of his patient's death, Peter becomes entangled in an ongoing investigation of a brazen luxury auto theft. He also becomes a source of deep irritation to detective Lisa Kealoha, who has jurisdiction over the case.
But when the two join forces, they begin to uncover a destructive plot that runs far deeper than either of them could have imagined. And if they're not careful, they're both going to end up dead.

Award-winning author James R. Hannibal whisks you away to the deadly beauty of Hawaii for a story of greed, violence, and justice that will leave you breathless.

What are you waiting on this week?

Top Ten Tuesday: Comfort Reads

Join in the Top Ten Tuesday fun! Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Suspense would not be everyone's cup of tea, but for me there is nothing better to curl up with a great heart pumping suspense.  When I find myself in a reading slump, or need something good to read, suspense will always give me that kick I need.

So here is some of my comfort reads by some of my favourite authors still to read:

1.  From Russia with Love

4.  The Crushing Depths

5.  Flight Risk

7.  A Secret to Die For

8.  The View from Rainshadow Bay

9.  Dark Justice

10.  Dangerous Illusions

About the book:

When former Navy SEAL and lifelong bachelor Ranger Kingston is called upon to take part in a rescue mission to save his brother Colt, who has been kidnapped by terrorists in Nigeria, he is shocked to find among the hostages a woman he knows and could never forget.

And while Ranger Kingston may be able to get the hostages away from their captors, he'll need Noemi's help if he ever hopes to get out of Nigeria alive.

Her solution? Pose as husband and wife. But when her uncle discovers the union, he insists on a traditional Nigerian wedding--binding Noemi to a man destined to break her heart. Worse, she's discovered the real reason she was kidnapped, and anyone around her is bound to be caught in the cross fire. Including her so-called new husband.

She'll need to figure out a way to leave the man she loves if she wants to save his life.

Review: Three Missing Days

Three Missing Days Three Missing Days by Colleen Coble
My rating: 💛💛💛💛

Warning: This series needs to be read in order, otherwise you might feel lost and definite spoilers will be read.

Following God is a journey, not a destination.

This third book was fast paced, filled with action and suspense, and provided the reader with conclusions for questions raised in book one and two. I had my suspicions throughout this book but was never 100% sure - I loved that the author had me wondering right till the end.

The relationship between Jane and Reid goes through further development and growth with an ending which would put a smile on the face of fans of this series who was invested and totally hoping for a perfect ending.

Faith was about walking where you couldn’t see the path.

Though every thread was concluded, not everything had a happy ending.

Highly recommended to fans of Colleen Coble and readers who enjoy romantic suspense by Susan May Warren, Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason, and Terri Blackstock.

Review: Potiphar's Wife

Potiphar's Wife Potiphar's Wife by Mesu Andrews
My rating: 💛💛💛💛

I’m always excited for a new Mesu Andews story. This author has a way of bringing characters I’ve briefly read about in the Bible to life and making me care and feel for them.

Potiphar’s Wife was no different. This fictional story about someone I rarely thought about did make me wonder about who the person behind the scenes to Joseph's road in Egypt was as well as giving me more meat about Potiphar as well.

Zuleika’s decisions frustrated me and at one point towards the end I was so irritated with her that I wanted to stop reading! This is evident of great writing because my emotions were due to the author making Zukeika feel real. It was sad to see a bold, courageous full of life woman become so lost and broken and ending up making lost and broken decisions.

The story did feel a bit more ‘steamier’ than previous books read by this author.

I loved Bushpa and Ahira and the way Joseph trusted Elohim even though everyone else around him was lost and worshiped idols.

I think fans of Mesu Andrews and Biblical fiction will enjoy this story.

About the book:

The drama of the Old Testament comes to life as one of the Bible’s most infamous women longs for Joseph, her husband’s servant, in this riveting novel from the award-winning author of Isaiah's Legacy.

Before she is Potiphar's wife, Zuleika is a king's daughter on the isle of Crete, where the sisterhood of women rules in the absence of their seafaring husbands. Now that she's come of age, Zuleika knows she will soon be betrothed. Her father believes his robust trade with Egypt will ensure Pharaoh's obligation to marry his daughter.

But Pharaoh refuses and gives her instead to Potiphar, the captain of his bodyguards--a crusty bachelor twice her age, who would rather have a new horse than a Minoan wife.

Abandoned by her father, rejected by Pharaoh, and humiliated by Potiphar's indifference, Zuleika years for affection. But when her obsession with Joseph, the Hebrew chamberlain with the face and body of the gods, goes terribly wrong, she discovers the truth: Only the God of Joseph can heal her wounded heart.

About the author:

Mesu grew up with a variegated Christian heritage. With grandparents from the Pilgrim Holiness,

Nazarene, and Wesleyan Churches, her dad was a Quaker and mom charismatic. As you might imagine, God was a central figure in most family discussions, but theology was a battlefield and Scripture the weapon. As a rebellious teenager, Mesu rejected God and His Word, but discovered Jesus as a life-transforming Savior through the changed life of an old friend.

The desire for God's Word exploded with her new commitment, but devotional time was scarce due to the demands of a young wife and mother. So Mesu scoured the only two theology books available--children's Bible stories and her Bible. The stories she read to her daughters at night pointed her to the Bible passages she studied all day. She became an avid student of God's Word, searching historical and cultural settings as well as ancient texts and original languages.

Mesu and her husband Roy have raised those two daughters and now enjoy a tribe of grandkids, who get to hear those same Bible stories. Mesu's love for God's Word has never waned. She now writes biblical novels, rich with spiritual insight learned through fascinating discoveries in deep historical research.

Her first novel, Love Amid the Ashes (Revell)--the story of Job and the women who loved him--won the 2012 ECPA Book of the Year in the Debut Author Category. Her subsequent novels have released with high praise, shedding light on some of the shadowy women of Scripture. Love's Sacred Song (Revell, 2012) tells the story of the beloved shepherdess in King Solomon's Song of Solomon. Love in a Broken Vessel (Revell, 2013) tells the story of Hosea and Gomer and is the final stand-alone novel in the Treasures of His Love Series. Her fourth novel, In the Shadow of Jezebel (Revell, 2014) tells the fascinating story of Queen Athaliah and the courageous Princess Jehosheba.

The Treasures of the Nile series (Waterbrook/Multnomah, 2015-16) included The Pharaoh's Daughter and Miriam and spanned Moses' life from birth to the Exodus. Her 2017 release, Isaiah's Daughter (Waterbrook/Multnomah), explores the life and ministry of the prophet Isaiah and the tumultuous days of Judah under the reigns of Ahaz and Hezekiah but focuses on the woman Hephzibah--a fascinating character in Jewish legends.

Mesu writes in their log cabin tucked away in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Her best friend is an American Staffordshire Terrier named Zeke, who keeps her company on long writing days. Zeke also enjoys watching movies, long walks in the woods, and sitting by the fireplace on rainy days.

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Quote Freebie

Join in the Top Ten Tuesday fun! Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

So, I don't always remember quotes and I'm not always good at highlighting and saving quotes.  But I do have a lot of quotes on Goodreads.  This time, I'm highlighting quotes I loved from Ronie Kendig.  Why only one author?  Her characters always has crazy fun banter and she drops them at exactly the right moment.  I wished I saved all the quotes I loved from her books, but here is some I could find - some of these might be more understandable to fans of Ronie Kendig:

1. Conspiracy of Silence

“About time someone dug that heart out of your butt”

“He might not like that she'd dated the guy once, but he didn't want him dead. Most of the time.”

“You can hide but you can't run”

"Great.  Tick 'em off.  Make 'em really want to kill you.  Nothing like a little added pressure."

“Information is a weapon, Use it.”

“I can't do love and marriage right now. I have to save the world first."

And the next few quotes is just some which made fans (including me) fell in love with the Metcalfe family

7. Soul Raging

"Don't give up on Leif so easily. He's a Metcalfe. We know the right road, even if it takes us a while to travel it."

8.  Stone

“I'm not known for waffles, punk." "Yeah, well, keep perfecting those skills - like tonight - and you will be.”

9.  Willow

“We've got trouble.

We're Metcalfes, when don't we?”

10.  Willow

“...I'm here. Use my skills."

"What exactly are those skills?" Cord asked.

"Whatever I need them to be."

This guy was definitely a Metcalfe”

Review: Frequency

Frequency Frequency by Lisa Harris
My rating: 💛💛💛💛💛

With writing a series, there is always the added pressure of having a next book as good as the first. This third book was the best yet for me. Building on the intrigue and action from book one and two with the grid down and murders and human traffickers running around, Frequency added to that suspense.

The story captivated me from the start, and if I had the time, I would have read this in one sitting.

There were times where I felt I was so invested in the story, that I felt that something was off, mistrusted a character or two, and felt the action and events were realistic, given the backstory of the grid being down.

The chemistry between Kellan and Tess developed well and I loved the ending and can't wait for book 4.

Loving this series and recommended to fans of romantic suspense and fast paced action.
