Review: Dead Sea Conspiracy

Dead Sea Conspiracy Dead Sea Conspiracy by Jerry B. Jenkins
My rating: 💛💛💛

Dead Sea Conspiracy was a great conclusion for the series, bringing past and present together to give the reader the full picture.

The present included some mystery which was intriguing, but I enjoyed the past story at the end a bit more. Maybe because it is a fictional biblical story about Abraham’s parents, his growing up years to the man we know from the Bible. I also enjoyed how it went all the way to Noah’s descendants.

The theme as well that God expects nothing but being first in our lives, having pure hearts, but also not giving up on us and helping us get to where He wants us came across strongly in the past timeline.

Can't Wait Wednesday! The Elusive Truth of Lily Temple

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights and discusses the books we're excited about that we've yet to read. Generally, they're books that are yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

I love the beautiful written historical novels by Joanna Davidson Politano. Her newest novel will release April 2024:

About the book: The Elusive Truth of Lily Temple

Peter Driscoll, an underground investigator to the wealthy, has never met anyone like Lily Temple. The beautiful silent-film actress spins fairy tales and plays frivolous roles in front of the cine-camera, but beneath the costumes and stage makeup is a woman with a quick wit--and a murky past.

Peter has been tasked with locating the legendary Briarwood Teardrop, an exquisite sapphire, which Lily wears beneath her gown. In order to stay close to her and hopefully unravel the mystery of her story--and the sapphire--Peter employs Lily's help on a case, which leads to a useful partnership. But as they are investigating together, Peter is also investigating Lily. The closer he gets to the truth, the more danger they face. And the closer he gets to Lily, the clearer it is that he needs her even more than she needs him.

Award-winning author Joanna Davidson Politano whisks you away to Edwardian England in 1903 for a whimsical and layered tale that treads the crooked line between real and make-believe.

Review: When the Flames Ravaged: July 6, 1944

When the Flames Ravaged: July 6, 1944 When the Flames Ravaged: July 6, 1944 by Rhonda Dragomir
My rating: 💛💛💛💛💛

Could this woman answer Evelyn’s most burning question? “Why does God let these terrible things happen? Either He doesn’t love us very much, or He’s not powerful enough to stop them.”

This book surprised me. Starting the story, I did not expect to really enjoy it, but the author drew me fast with her gripping writing and barely a blink I was 40% into the story.

“Yes. God could upend the laws of nature. Sometimes He does, and those are what we call miracles.” Bernice leaned closer. “But if they happened every day, they wouldn’t be miracles anymore. Sometimes God lets nature take its course.”

The author drew me along with the characters, making me feel their fear, loss, and despair. I also felt that through Lily, we as readers could see the true trauma of the survivors and their struggle to just live each day after the horrible day.

The characters struggle with their faith in grips of the trauma was realistic and the questions raised is something I think we all ask when faced with grave events in our lives.

“It’s okay not to understand. Just like you trust Aunt Evie, we all need to trust God—that He loves us, He is with us, and He will take us someday to live with Him in heaven with your papa and mama.”

This was a great debut which highlighted a horrible day in a realistic, emotional, and faith-filled way.

Review: Coming of Winter

Coming of Winter Coming of Winter by Tom Threadgill
My rating: 💛💛💛💛

The Coming of Winter was a thrilling serial killer suspense. I would recommend it to fans of Steven James.

The author did mention that this series was written for the general market, so I did find it a bit different to his later series I have read, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

The serial killer was twisted and there was a turn I did not expect. As a reader we see who the killer is from the start and see a lot of detail and thoughts from the killer’s POV. So, if you do not like a lot of gory details, then I would recommend you skip this series.

I loved the character of FBI agent Winter. I enjoyed how he had a gut feeling about something more than a missing person and investigated to find facts and truth. The author did something I did not really like but that added to the suspense.

I am looking forward to continuing the series.

As the clues mount, a dark figure from Jeremy's past emerges with an ultimatum — one that could force him out of the Bureau. Afraid that his girlfriend, fellow agent Maggie Keeley, will be dragged into a high-stakes political game, he delays his decision. But as the tally of missing persons increases, Winter closes in on the unlikeliest of suspects.

The bodies are out there.

He just has to find them before his past catches up with him.

Review: The Mistress of Tall Acre

The Mistress of Tall Acre The Mistress of Tall Acre by Laura Frantz
My rating: 💛💛💛💛

Laura Frantz’s stories always has a slow build for me. Her characters have great depth and backstory, but for me it takes a while to grasp them, but when I do they win me over.

Sophie, however, was easy to connect with from the start. It might be the way she just connected with Lily Cate (the 5-year-old daughter of Seamus), but someone with a heart for children just easily connects with me. There was one point where I got frustrated with her through. Sophie had information which could have helped Seamus sooner with a specific situation, and I do not understand why she withheld that.

Seamus was harsh and hardened from his time in war, but it was refreshing to see how Sophie helped him opening his softer side, especially towards his daughter.

I did guess what will happen quite early on in this story wrt the mystery women from Seamus’s past. I loved how goodness out won evil at the end.

About the book: Love, Unscripted

The perfect boyfriend only exists on paper…doesn’t he?

Fresh off the heels of a bad breakup, Chloe Anderson poured her heart into penning the perfect boyfriend—and the result was an off-the-charts debut beach read that resonated with women worldwide. Now, Chloe’s scripted hero is headed for Hollywood, with her book destined to become a major motion picture.

When Chloe gets wind that silver screen bad boy Liam Hamilton has been cast as the ideal-in-every-way hero of her novel, she’s horrified by the film director’s choice. How could a player like Liam possibly do Chloe’s perfect hero justice? Unafraid to speak her mind, Chloe lets her executive producer know she’s one hundred percent opposed to the casting. And oops—the call is on speakerphone, where the annoyingly attractive Hollywood star hears Chloe’s unbridled outrage firsthand.

With Liam’s reputation already on the rocks, his agent concocts a PR plan to upgrade Liam’s image while putting the story—and the film—in the spotlight. The catch? During the movie’s filming in Chloe’s cute hometown of Stillwater, North Carolina, Chloe and Liam will fake a wholesome, committed relationship. Both stand to gain something from the arrangement. Liam’s fans will see him in a new light, while Chloe can boost her struggling social media following and further her writing career. What could possibly go wrong?

As author and actor navigate the waters of the PR relationship, they’re unprepared when their professional agreement turns into an actual friendship. And when serious sparks start to fly—well, that’s an unread chapter for both of them.
